The Leo Baeck Institute London is honoured to receive a donation of four books from the personal library of Pauline Paucker, widow of the late Dr Arnold Paucker, who served as Director of LBI London from 1959 to 2001.
These books carry a remarkable connection to the Institute’s origins: several are signed by Robert Weltsch, founding director of LBI London and the driving force behind the establishment of its original library collection.
The donated books are:
- Martin Buber – Des Baal-Schem-Tow: Unterweisung im Umgang mit Gott
- Martin Buber – Kampf um Israel
- Martin Buber – Der heilige Weg
- Gustav Landauer – Skepsis und Mystik
Dr Arnold Paucker was a key figure in German-Jewish historical scholarship and editor of the Leo Baeck Institute Year Book for over 30 years. Mrs Paucker, too, has long been involved with the Institute, including many years of editorial support for the Year Book.
We are deeply grateful to Mrs Paucker for her generous donation and her continued connection to the LBI London. The books will be added to our library collection and made available to researchers.
For further information about the collection or to arrange a visit, please contact the Institute.
