Prostitutes, Converts, and Jews: Defining Boundaries Between Jews and Christians in the Middle Ages
Savoy Curry is a historian researching gender, mobility, and civic identity in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Her PhD dissertation (Northwestern University, July 2026), under the supervision of Prof. Dyan Elliott and Prof. David Shyovitz, examines sexual crimes, including adultery and sex work, with a particular focus on sexual relationships between Jews and Christians. From 2023-2026, she was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as a part of the ISF funded research group “Contending with Crises: The Jews of Fourteenth Century Europe,” led by Prof. Elisheva Baumgarten. In addition to the Leo Baeck Fellowship, her research has been supported by the Fulbright-Hays DDRA and The Crown Center for Jewish and Israel Studies. She will begin a postdoctoral position at Tel Aviv University in the fall of 2026, as a Dan David fellow, where she will research the movements of women between late-medieval German cities.
