Special Screening and Lecture

This event is jointly organised by the Leo Baeck Institute London and the Wiener Library.

The lecture will focus on the Nazi period and shed light on the influence of bourgois culture on National Socialist ideology - a devastating combination of culture and ideology that confronted German Jewry from 1933.
The lecture will also focus on the visual language of Riefenstahl's film Olympia - The film of the 11th Olympic Games Berlin 1936- a film still highly acclaimed today. It will analyse how Riefenstahl 'staged' Aryan masculinity and conveyed antisemitism in the film - alongside a specific interpretation of the role of Greek mythology.

Following the lecture there will be a screening of the famous prologue of the Olympia film (20 min.) and a question and answer session.
